A Christian musical concert given by Stockholm South Band of The Salvation Army.
This concert is the only opportunity for Salvationists, Christians, and brass band enthusiasts in the South of England to see and hear this fine Salvation Army Band. Don't miss out!
Tickets are available online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/maidenhead-salvation-army and from the Hall and will be available on the door on the night.
The address of the venue is St. Mary's Church, High Street, Maidenhead, SL6 1YY at 8:00pm tomorrow.
PARKING: There is no parking at the church. The nearest car park is Hines Meadow (Sainsbury's) from which there is a rear entrance to the church through the church gardens. Blue badge holders can also park on the double yellow lines on the High Street between Queen Street and St. Ives Road.
The band was established in 1999 when four Salvation Army churches from the southern part of Greater Stockholm were merged to form the present Stockholm South Corps. This included the merging of the two bands Stockholm 7 and Stockholm 3. Both these bands had an impressive heritage and tradition stretching back over 100 years. This fine legacy provided the new band with much to live up to in terms of faithful service both for the Salvation Army and God´s kingdom.
In addition to the domestic service the bands toured regularly abroad with Stockholm 7 starting in the late 40s with tours to Switzerland, Germany, England and later on to USA twice. Example of later tours by Stockholm 7 to England were in 1974 participating in the farewell of General Erik Wickberg at Royal Festival Hall and at the same tour visiting this tours hosting Kettering Salvation Army, in 1991 at Hendon Highlights and in 1995 at Butlins Salvation Army Camp in Skegness.
Stockholm 3 Band did a lot of domestic tours but also abroad to Finland.
During recent decades the Stockholm South Band has shown itself to be a worthy representative for Salvation Army bands. In addition to providing meaningful contribution to the weekly worship services at the Corps the band has also been busy with many performances both in concert halls and other churches.
The Stockholm South band has toured abroad to countries such as Norway, Denmark and England last time in year 2012.
Under the leadership of Tobias Jutestål, himself a professional percussionist graduated from Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, the band remains a vital part of the corps ministry and makes the Salvation Army present and visible in the local community.

Embarking on a Spiritual Odyssey: Maidenhead Corps' Renewal
This Sunday, we are invited to reflect upon our spiritual journey, akin to the Israelites' trek to the Promised Land. Looking at the Israelites’ journey in this way, weaves our collective experiences, acknowledging our rich heritage while gazing forward at the exhilarating prospects that God has laid before us.
The Journey Begins
Maidenhead Corps, much like the Israelites under Joshua, finds itself at the dawn of a new era. The challenges we have faced, particularly during the global pandemic, have tested our resilience. Yet, they also present us with a chance to rejuvenate our faith and mission. Whilst we can all reminisce about the victories of our past, holding them dear, we must also forge ahead with trust in God's promises for our future.
Patience and Vigilance
As we navigate this journey, and continue our Big Conversation, we are reminded of the patience needed when awaiting God's plans to unfurl. Drawing from the symbolism of the Ark of the Covenant, we are encouraged to remain vigilant and prepare our hearts for the spiritual marvels to come. This spiritual awakening calls us to not merely observe but actively participate in the destiny of our corps family.
A Vision for Tomorrow
We salute the 138-year legacy of the Maidenhead Corps and its unwavering blessings. With an eye towards future glory, we ponder on the courage required to step into the unknown, backed by an unwavering faith in God's guidance. I implore each one of you to engage in the Big Conversation about our path ahead and to dream boundlessly, assured that seeking God's kingdom will cater to all our needs.
Daily Life
Let’s start by actively engaging in our own spiritual renewal. I encourage you to participate in our Mission Cluster Groups and to be present during our corps-wide discussions. This is not merely about the future of Maidenhead Corps; it is about each of us taking a step closer to realising the faith-filled future God has in store.
I look forward to continuing this spiritual journey with you and discovering God's grand design for our corps family.

SUNDAY 5 May – SABBATH PRAYER
Ascension
This Sunday begins the week in which Ascension Day is celebrated, 40 days after Easter. We remember that Jesus appeared to his disciples many times after his resurrection to give them his final instructions, including to ‘go and make disciples’. Luke’s Gospel says that Jesus was blessing his disciples even as he left them. Father God, thank you for the gift of Sabbath time to reflect on following your commands in our own discipleship.
(Lieut-Colonel Jayne Roberts, Secretary for Spiritual Life Development)
MONDAY 6 May – SHARING THE GOOD NEWS
Central, Southern and Channel Islands Division
The Central, Southern and Channel Islands Division covers Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Channel Islands, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Oxfordshire, including Salisbury. With a division covering such a large area, we need to work towards an area structure. Our heart is that mission should flourish locally. Pray for us as we help corps and centres to develop local mission strategies. Pray particularly for our strategic mission on Portsea Island, West Dorset.
(Major Mike Lloyd-Jones, Divisional Commander)
TUESDAY 7 May – SERVING AND CARING
Candidates Sunday (12 May)
Our Scripture this year is Romans 12:1, which talks about offering ourselves wholly to God. For some, this will mean seriously considering Salvation Army officership, territorial envoyship, Pioneering or another kind of spiritual leadership role in The Salvation Army. We pray they will be intentional about making a step of faith, going for an interview or having a conversation with someone, and we pray that they will find wise counsel.
(Major Mark Sawyer, Territorial Candidates Director)
WEDNESDAY 8 May – GROWING IN FAITH
Candidates Sunday (12 May)
As a Candidates Unit, we have been encouraging officers to have intentional conversations with people in their congregation about whether God might be calling them into any particular type of leadership. We pray that those already in spiritual leadership will have the courage to open up those conversations, inviting people to explore the will and purpose of God for their lives, and challenging them to brave, bold obedience.
(Major Mark Sawyer, Territorial Candidates Director)
THURSDAY 9 May – INTERNATIONAL SALVATION ARMY
India Central Territory
We pray for Territorial Leadership: Colonel Yaqoob Masih, Territorial Commander; Colonel Sumitra Masih, Territorial President of Women’s Ministries; Lieut-Colonel Masilamony Stalin, Chief Secretary; Lieut-Colonel Y S Kezial Stalin, Territorial Secretary for Women’s Ministries. The India Central Territory comprises four regions: North Tamil Nadu (Madras-Chennai), Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
We give thanks for the thousands of Salvationists making Christ known in the India Central Territory, and pray that God will provide for their needs, heal their wounds and shine his light through their lives.
(Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
FRIDAY 10 May – JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION
Family Tracing Service
Lord, we lift before you all those who are separated from their families, either by choice, necessity or circumstance. We pray that, when they hear news of the Family Tracing Service holding an interest in their wellbeing and whereabouts, they will have the courage to speak with us. We pray they will trust us and feel safe in our hands. We ask that you will help us to reflect compassion and kindness in every interaction.
(Karen Wallace, Team Leader – Family Tracing Service)
SATURDAY 11 May – CARE FOR CREATION
Joining the dots
‘People will not experience fullness of life unless God’s creation is protected and cared for.’ (from The Salvation Army website)
One of the reasons our Mission Priority, Care for Creation, is so important is that the health of our planet directly impacts the lives and livelihoods of millions of people. Our lives can feel somewhat disconnected from the condition of the soil, the purity of the water or the vagaries of the weather, because the dual benefits of wealth and technology bring us exactly what we need when we need it. Pray that God will help us to look beyond our own relatively comfortable lifestyle, to consider the needs of those who cannot avoid the devastating consequences of climate change and the ruthless exploitation of Earth’s resources.
(Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
Boiler Room – Powerhouse.
You are welcome to join us for our Boiler Room Prayer Meeting every Friday between 9:30am-10:00am in-person in the Prayer Room. I will be providing subjects each week for us to pray for, based on our mission and ministry and what is going on around us.
There is a Prayer Requests box on Reception (along with Prayer Request notepads) for use by corps members and hopefully, others who come into the Hall. We will pray those requests on a Friday morning too (unless they are marked Confidential for the CO only). Please do take advantage of this when it becomes available. We need to pray for each other! (as I know many of us do).
Do you have a prayer request? Please email us, use the prayer request box on our reception desk in The Hub, or speak to a member of the leadership team.
