A Christian musical concert given by Stockholm South Band of The Salvation Army.
This concert is the only opportunity for Salvationists, Christians, and brass band enthusiasts in the South of England to see and hear this fine Salvation Army Band. Don't miss out!
Tickets are available online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/maidenhead-salvation-army and from the Hall and (if available) on the door on the night.
The band was established in 1999 when four Salvation Army churches from the southern part of Greater Stockholm were merged to form the present Stockholm South Corps. This included the merging of the two bands Stockholm 7 and Stockholm 3. Both these bands had an impressive heritage and tradition stretching back over 100 years. This fine legacy provided the new band with much to live up to in terms of faithful service both for the Salvation Army and God´s kingdom.
In addition to the domestic service the bands toured regularly abroad with Stockholm 7 starting in the late 40s with tours to Switzerland, Germany, England and later on to USA twice. Example of later tours by Stockholm 7 to England were in 1974 participating in the farewell of General Erik Wickberg at Royal Festival Hall and at the same tour visiting this tours hosting Kettering Salvation Army, in 1991 at Hendon Highlights and in 1995 at Butlins Salvation Army Camp in Skegness.
Stockholm 3 Band did a lot of domestic tours but also abroad to Finland.
During recent decades the Stockholm South Band has shown itself to be a worthy representative for Salvation Army bands. In addition to providing meaningful contribution to the weekly worship services at the Corps the band has also been busy with many performances both in concert halls and other churches.
The Stockholm South band has toured abroad to countries such as Norway, Denmark and England last time in year 2012.
Under the leadership of Tobias Jutestål, himself a professional percussionist graduated from Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, the band remains a vital part of the corps ministry and makes the Salvation Army present and visible in the local community.

Membership Course
If you are interested in exploring active membership of The Salvation Army, either as a soldier or as an adherent member, then we will be holding a 14-week course that will seek to inspire you about The Salvation Army, its past, present, and future, and your role within it and to teach what life as a Salvation Army member requires, unpacking the beliefs and distinctives of The Salvation Army as a Movement, and to help instil the disciplines for being an effective follower of Jesus in The Salvation Army. We already have two young people signed up who will meet in person, but it will also be possible to join the weekly sessions remotely.
There will be a youth/young adult session, in person at the Quarters on Sunday afternoon, commencing on 5 May 2024 @2:45pm, and an adult session on Zoom (and in person at the Quarters if anyone would prefer face to face) at 6:15pm on Sunday evenings, starting from Sunday 21 April.
Please let Captain Rob know of your interest by Sunday 14 April at the latest so that the course books can be ordered from Trade in time for us to start on or around Sunday 21 April.

Captain’s Log
I must have visited Stan Clegg three or four times before his Promotion to Glory. He was fascinating! I could have listened to his stories about his derring-do forever! I was amazed to discover he was part of the code breaking team at Bletchley Park in the Second World War. What a life he led!
As we journey together through the depths of the Bible, we often encounter complex passages that can leave us bewildered. However, like the disciples after the resurrection, we have the opportunity to experience pivotal moments that shift our understanding from confusion to clarity. Those first disciples after Easter? They talked about Jesus, and we are called to understand Jesus's story so we can do the same.
The disciples faced a tumultuous time following Jesus' crucifixion. The despair and disorientation were palpable. Yet, when they encountered the risen Christ and began to see the fulfilment of prophecies, their confusion was replaced with comprehension. The Bible became their code to break, revealing God's redemptive plan through Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.
Peter's bold proclamation, "but God," encapsulates this shift. This simple phrase signifies the ultimate turning point, highlighting God's intervention in the face of human failures. It is a powerful reminder that while we are flawed, God's plans for redemption and grace prevail.
In the footsteps of the first followers of Christ, we too are called to share the revolutionary story of Jesus. But it is necessary for us to first understand Jesus' narrative as a foundation for spreading his teachings. The disciples, empowered by the Holy Spirit, became fearless messengers of the gospel. We, with resources like the New Testament and the fellowship of believers, are equally equipped to carry on this mission.
Our Growth Groups are spaces to prepare ourselves for conversations about our faith. In these groups, we delve into Scripture, pray together, and encourage one another, fostering a deeper understanding of Jesus' life and teachings. As we immerse ourselves in these communal activities, we grow in our ability to articulate the profound impact of Christ in our lives.
We are reminded of the enduring legacy left by Jesus' disciples. Their commitment to spreading the good news serves as a model for us to follow. We are urged to embrace the grace given to us and to share our experiences of Christ with others.
Let's take a moment to reflect on our personal journeys. How have the words "but God" transformed your own story? How can you embody this transformation as you talk about Jesus with others?
I encourage each of you to actively seek moments to share how God has worked in your life. Whether through service and ministry, conversations, or personal witness, let your life be a testament to the transformative power of 'But God.' Remember, our testimonies have the potential to resonate with others, leading them towards the redemptive love of Christ.
May we all be inspired to live out the gospel, talking about Jesus with the confidence and clarity that comes from truly understanding His message. And as we do so, may we remember that it is not by our might or power, but by the Spirit of God, that hearts are touched and lives are changed.
Battle Drill Daily Devotional Podcast This Week:
This week on the Battle Drill Daily Devotional podcast, we focus on the transformation of the disciples following Christ's resurrection, and how the same power can help us carry the torch of testimony to those we know. Each weekday we share hope and encouragement as we read and study the Bible together.
- Monday 15 April - The Remarkable Transformation: From Darkness to Light
- Tuesday 16 April - The Bold Witness of Peter: Embracing Courage and Conviction in Our Discipleship
- Wednesday 17 April - The Transformative Power of "But God" Verses
- Thursday 18 April - The Journey from Confusion to Clarity and Purpose
- Friday 19 April - Carrying the Torch of Testimony: Illuminating the Impact of Christ
There's a new episode of Battle Drill Devotional every Monday through Friday. You can pick a copy of this week’s up from Reception. Click on the link - https://linktr.ee/battlefieldresources - to listen, watch or subscribe to the podcast. You can even listen to it three times a day on Salvationist Radio!
In Christ.

SUNDAY 14 April – SABBATH PRAYER
The choice to stop.
Stopping what we’re doing is never easy, either when we’re enjoying something or battling with something. We’ve probably all heard someone say, ‘You need to stop!’ As hard as it is, it is a choice that we can make.
Lord, give us the strength to stop and let go. Escort us to a place of quietness and confidence. In Jesus’ name we pray.
(Major Gary Lacey, Territorial Prayer Co-ordinator)
MONDAY 15 April – SHARING THE GOOD NEWS
‘Join the Crescendo’ Forums
At this online forum, Creative Arts and Music leaders gather together to unpack the ‘Join the Crescendo’ resource. These leaders are dealing with very different groups and situations. Pray for encouragement and revival for those whose groups are in decline. Pray for those who are at a loss as to which direction their group should take and are looking for support. Pray that everyone present will find fresh vision for the ways in which God’s love can be communicated through music and creativity.
(Stephanie Lamplough, Assistant Director – Music and Creative Arts)
TUESDAY 16 April – SERVING AND CARING
Pioneer focus: – the challenges of planting
‘Some might think it’s a walk in the park, but I have not found this to be the case. Pioneering is the hardest job I’ve ever had; but that said, it has been the most fruitful, both in the shoots of life that sprout up from time to time, and also in my own life as a Christian.’
Pray for those who are finding pioneering to be a struggle today; for grace to keep going and for determination to keep making Christ known, even when they don’t see fruit.
(Quote from Dave Cotterill, Pioneer Development Worker)
WEDNESDAY 17 April – GROWING IN FAITH
Natural Church Development Conference: 19-21 April
This conference gathers groups from corps and gives them an opportunity to consider how to capitalise on the strengths they have as a worshipping community, how to overcome obstacles to growth, and how to disciple the church while engaging in mission. Pray for all those who will attend, that they will return home with fresh ideas and fresh energy.
(Prayer based on text from the event description on the Salvationist website)
THURSDAY 18 April – INTERNATIONAL SALVATION ARMY
Nigeria Territory
We pray today for the Nigeria Territory. We ask God’s blessings on Territorial Commander Commissioner Daniel Kasuso and Territorial President for Women’s Ministries Commissioner Tracey Kasuso. In a country where faith is often a flashpoint for strife and violence, we pray for protection for Salvationists and for the programmes they are running. May the word of God bear fruit and change lives.
(Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
FRIDAY 19 April – JUSTICE AND RECONCILIATION
Anti-Trafficking and Modern Slavery: Contract Team
The Contract Team connect with local authorities, partner organisations and individuals, to offer advice and to do anything else they can to help bring survivors of trafficking to freedom. Pray for them as they navigate complex decisions and processes, to ensure that survivors receive the care and support they deserve and are entitled to.
(Major Estelle Blake and the Anti-Trafficking and Modern Slavery Team)
SATURDAY 20 April – CARE FOR CREATION
The privilege of pets
‘The righteous care for the needs of their animals.’ (Proverbs 12:10)
Many of us share our homes and lives with a beloved pet. They are our companions, comrades, confidants and sometimes even ministry partners. They help us realise the truth that the Earth is full of ‘persons’, and only some of them are human. When we pray for their health, happiness and wellbeing, it strengthens the bond we share with them. They teach us something beautiful about unconditional love.
Thank you, Creator God, for the gift of our ‘other-than-human’ companions. Thank you for all they teach us about the One who created them. Help us to make their lives as full, safe and wonderful as we can, and to accept the lessons they teach us with awareness, grace and a grateful heart.
Action: Take a moment to sit with your pet and look at them properly. Admire their colour, the softness of their fur, the depth of trust you see in their eyes when you hold their gaze. Today, do not take for granted their presence in your home and life. Do something enjoyable and special to celebrate them as a loved and valued family member.
(Major Vivienne Prescott, Forest of Dean Corps)
Boiler Room – Powerhouse.
You are welcome to join us for our Boiler Room Prayer Meeting every Friday between 9:30am-10:00am in-person in the Prayer Room. I will be providing subjects each week for us to pray for, based on our mission and ministry and what is going on around us.
There is a Prayer Requests box on Reception (along with Prayer Request notepads) for use by corps members and hopefully, others who come into the Hall. We will pray those requests on a Friday morning too (unless they are marked Confidential for the CO only). Please do take advantage of this when it becomes available. We need to pray for each other! (as I know many of us do).
Do you have a prayer request? Please email us, use the prayer request box on our reception desk in The Hub, or speak to a member of the leadership team.
